The Morristown Art Association invites photographers from the Lakeway Area to participate in the 2018 Morristown Art Association Fine Art Photography Juried Show, Oct. 1 to Nov. 30 at the Morristown-Hamblen Library.

The fine art show is open to photographers working in any photography medium.

Photographs should not have hung in any previous Morristown Art Association juried show. Fine art Photography of any subject is welcome; there is no required theme for entries.

The show will be judged by professional photographer Elena Ganusove, Ph.D.

Born and raised in Siberia, Russia, her background education is in microbiology and biophysics. She works as a research scientist at the University of Tennessee.

“I fell in love with photography when I was about 6, actually my father introduced me into the magic of the black-and-white photography,” she said. “My interest in photography grew stronger with years and finally I decided to go to the professional school at the University of Tennessee, where I got my first certification in photography. It is hard to believe, that five years ago I did not know much about professional photographer associations. Now I belong to the Board of Directors of Professional Photographers of East TN (PPETN), TN Professional Photographers Association (TNPPA) and national PPA.

“My photographic work had received prestigious awards in the local, state, national and international print competitions. Once I realized the endless possibilities in image creation in Photoshop, it became my new passion. My fine art photo composition images were sold in a number of galleries in Knoxville area.”

Three photographs may be submitted. Size of entry must be no larger than 36 inches on any side (including frame, if used) and no smaller than an 8- by 10-inch photograph. Photographs may be mounted on a panel (wood, foam core, or metal), on a one-inch gallery-wrapped canvas, or framed.

Photographs must be presented in a manner compatible with a gallery hanging system using secure wire or line securely attached to the back of the photograph. Wire should be mounted no more than 1/4 of the way down from the top edge of the photograph/frame and be taut from side to side so as not to swing away from the top when hung. If a photograph falls off the hanger, it will be removed.

Photographs requiring special installation or unusual hanging techniques will not be accepted. Photographs must be allowed to hang for the duration of the show and picked up on the date indicated. MAA Fine Art Photography Juried Show Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any photograph prior to judging and retains the right to disallow any photograph which is inappropriate for this venue.

The juror will make the final decision for displaying work and will select the awards recipients. Points the Juror will consider include: impact, creativity, style, composition, color balance, presentation, focal point, lighting, subject matter, narrative, and degree of difficulty.

A total of $400 in awards will be presented. First Place–$200; Second Place–$125; Third Place–$75; Honorable Mention—Ribbon. Entry fees for each photograph are $10 for Morristown Art Association (MAA) members; $15 for non-MAA members; and $10 for Students with Student ID.

Photographs will be accepted at the Morristown-Hamblen Library on Saturday, Sept. 29, 9 a.m. until noon.

The “Awards Presentation” will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. until 12 noon, at the library when $400 in awards will be presented.
