Australian medical software vendor Genie Solutions has partnered with the Movember Foundation to generate more insightful data for men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their clinicians.
The initiative will integrate Movember’s True North digital health solutions with Genie’s clinical software to improve the scope of data on the patient journey from diagnosis through to recovery.
Both Movember and Genie Solutions also expect to include resources for other types of cancer in future iterations of the partnership.
The first stage, however, will give clinicians on Genie’s platforms access to Movember’s True North resources and surveys, which are filled out by men living with prostate cancer to regularly track and follow up on changes to physical and mental health over time.
Patients will then be offered personalised insights into how they can best manage the treatment side effects they’re experiencing, and gain an understanding of the experiences of other men receiving similar treatment.
Their responses can also be shared with treating clinicians for further care management and follow-up.
Movember Foundation’s executive director of programs, Paul Villanti, said men regularly experience ongoing side effects as a result of prostate cancer treatment, but often don’t know how to take action to improve their health.
“Many clinicians are currently working in a vacuum,” Villanti said.
“They don’t have access to the data that enables them to understand whether men diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer have got back to living a normal life, or are doing it tough.”
“By joining forces with Genie Solutions, we will be able to better support men living with prostate cancer by ensuring that the right resources and information from True North reaches patients and clinicians at the right time, when they need it most.”
Genie Solutions chief executive, James Scollay, said an estimated 19,500 men will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in Australia this year, and there are around 200,000 men “living with or beyond the disease”.
“Given Genie Solution’s reach within the urology community, we will be able to connect with
thousands of men each year struggling with treatment or side effects, who previously would
have had little in the way of support or guidance,” Scollay said.
