Chinese handset maker Realme, which was born as Oppo’s sub-brand is said to be working on a new smartphone that will feature a key highlight of the OnPlus 7 Pro.

This was announced by Realme’s product manager Wang Derek on Chinese microblogging website Weibo, along with a screenshot of a CNET report that claims “The new OnePlus hone has a 90Hz screen, cheaper than the OnePlus 7 Pro.” With the screenshot, Derek said, “Realme’s new 90Hz machine is not far away, and the price is lower than 7.” Replying to one of the comments Derek also suggested that that the the 90Hz Realme smartphone may be launched this year.

Right now, OnePlus 7 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3 are the only handsets offering 90Hz refresh rate for displays. Both Google Pixel 4 series and OnePlus 7T series are too expected to offer the same. However, all these smartphones are expensive lie above the Rs 35,000 price bracket. Realme, on the other hand, till now has been launching handsets in the sub-Rs 18,000 category. Therefore it remains to be seen whether Realme will launch this upcoming 90Hz refresh rate smartphone in its dominating price range or will leap into the mid-range flagship range.

Realme, which started as a sub-brand of Oppo, has managed to create a place for itself in the Indian smartphone space. As per latest quarter report from Counterpoint Research, Realme beat Oppo, its parent company, and emerged as the fourth largest smartphone player in the country in terms of shipments.
